Why is HTTG’s Ratings Low? It’s Not Yunho’s Fault

Heading to the Ground
Ratings for the drama Heading to the Ground (HTTG), starring Yunho, Go Ara, and Lee Yoon Ji, have been lower than expected.  But why is that?  Some professional critics seek to blame Yunho. My response: Dude, don’t blame the newbie for what appears to be the total rejection of the actual script.

Doing a random search of comments from sites like asianfanatics, soompi and popseoul reveal Yunho’s debut acting skills may not be the reason for the low ratings. There are plans to end the drama a couple of episodes earlier than expected.

Most criticism I’ve come across directly relate to the storyline itself as the problem. The drama’s script has been called “slow”, “confusing” and full of “distractions”.  I’ll just post a few of the many comments I’ve read.

Confession: I didn’t know TVXQ when I first saw them

Confession: I had no idea who TVXQ were when I saw them for the first time. LOL!  My very first experience was with the Banjun (I think) drama Dangerous Love. A link to that short, hilarious drama was posted on a shounen-ai fanboard.

I watched it and I thought it was one of the most hilarious things I had ever seen. It was funny, not too long and had some cute guys in it. But I had no idea these guys were in a group. I just assumed they were guys hired to act in the drama like every other drama. ROTFL

Jaejoong = Rock: Perfect for Rock Music

After I heard Dong Bang Shin Ki (TVXQ/Tohoshinki) member Jaejoong sing a solo rock song for the first time, this constant question kept popping up: Why doesn’t Jaejoong sing more rock music?  I suppose a more precise question would be why isn’t he allowed to sing more rock songs?  His voice is right for it.

Everything about his own personal style screams ROCKER.  That is, when he isn’t intentionally downplaying the image to better match his bandmate brothers in TVXQ.

PROUD of Junsu

I have to say I am very impressed with the way Junsu handled himself after injuring himself just before the start of Tohoshinki’s Japanese tour.

Can you imagine how helpless he must have been feeling after not being able to dance — something he loves to do just as much as singing?

Many people would have been too frustrated to do much of anything. But he still managed to find a place for himself within the performances, even if he had to appear on stage in a wheelchair while his fellow members pushed him around.   I’m sure he felt incredibly frustrated, but he almost never let it show in his on-stage performance.

Jaejoong – DBSK Perfect Women? Part 3

jaejoong_563s
(dongbanger) Jaejoong – Mr. ‘I-like-girls-with-pretty-hands’ – has the goal of finding his true love using a very specific criteria. Namely, he says he is first attracted to women with pretty hands.

‘Youngwood’ (my nickname for him, and yes I know the correct name is ‘Youngwoong’) seems to have an appreciation of aesthetics as evidenced by his own sense of style and personal beauty. I also think he has great instincts even if he doesn’t think so.

Jaejoong is simultaneously one of the most beautiful and most handsome guys I have ever seen. He has a ‘magic face’. Depending on which image he wants to portray at the time, he can be quite beautiful or look like a total streetwise bad-boy.

Yoochun vs Too-close-for-comfort Fan at Airport

Say, for example, you may be dang near exhausted after traveling all over the place performing. You probably want to get home, take a shower, put on fresh clothes, get a little sleep and look over your upcoming schedule.

Suddenly, somebody is literally right in front of your face invading your personal space — with a flash camera too — trying to take your picture while you’re in line at the airport.

What do you do? If you’re TVXQ’s Yoochun, you probably say a few words to that person and remove the camera out of your face.
